How to Search Civil Dockets
Wisconsin Circuit Court Access, known as WCCA, is the public starting point for a Manitowoc County civil court docket. Choose Manitowoc County for a party, business, or date search. A full case number can go straight into the case-number field. General civil files use CV, family files use FA, and small claims use SC. A sample general civil number is 2026CV000123.
WCCA permits a wildcard after at least three consecutive letters in a partial name. Status, filing dates, case type, and class code can narrow results. Date-range searches are limited to 30 days under the portal help. If the civil docket is absent, test the code and spelling, then ask the Manitowoc County Clerk of Circuit Court. The clerk accepts counter, mail, fax, and phone inquiries and provides two public CCAP computers.
- Open WCCA and select Manitowoc County.
- Search by full party or business name, or enter the civil case number.
- Use CV, FA, or SC and a status or date range to refine the list.
- Open the case summary and read the caption, events, settings, and judgment fields.
- Request the named document or a certified judgment from the clerk when needed.
Manitowoc Civil Search Codes
A code determines which Manitowoc County civil docket pool WCCA searches. CV is ordinary civil litigation. FA is family. SC covers small claims, including eviction case categories. PR and IN are probate estate codes, and WL marks a filed will. These are not interchangeable merely because each matter may involve a civil filing or order.
- CV
- General civil circuit case.
- FA
- Family case, which may include divorce or related motions.
- SC
- Small-claims case category.
- PR, IN, WL
- Probate estate, informal probate, and filed-will records.
Use the code with the filing year and sequence to confirm the file. The code says what track the case entered. It does not show who prevailed, whether the claim remains open, or whether later motions followed a judgment.
What a Manitowoc Civil Docket Shows
A Manitowoc County civil court docket gives a structured public summary. The header identifies case number, type, status, filing date, branch, and court official. The caption and party section distinguish the plaintiff or petitioner from the defendant or respondent. The event history may refer to filing, service, answer, motion, notice, order, hearing, judgment, satisfaction, appeal, or reopening.
| Case number | Year, civil case-type code, and sequence. |
|---|---|
| Parties | Public party names, roles, and attorney associations. |
| Events | Filing, service, answer, motion, order, and hearing entries. |
| Settings | Public date, time, branch, and setting label. |
| Judgment | Disposition, money judgment, satisfaction, or later action when public. |
The event label is not the document image. WCCA can tell a reader that an order was entered without publishing the signed order online. For the complaint, exhibit, transcript, or certified judgment, identify the event and request the actual file item from the clerk.
Manitowoc Civil Small Claims Docket
The Manitowoc County Small Claims Unit publishes a distinct intake route within circuit court. Small-claims intake is listed for Tuesday at 1:30 p.m., with eviction intake at about 2:00 p.m. in B-15. Forms may be mailed or hand delivered to Room 105. The county specifically names answer form SC-5200V and demand-trial form SC-517.
Demand-trial guidance states ten business days for an oral demand and fifteen calendar days for a written demand. Calculate any deadline from the actual notice, service method, and court order. The official source screen below shows the local intake and remote-appearance context.
A published routine can change, so confirm the current setting rather than treating the intake time as the hearing date in every SC case.
Manitowoc Civil Docket Case Types
The Manitowoc County civil court docket spans more than contract suits. General civil files can concern tort, property, debt, injunction, or other claims within circuit jurisdiction. The Civil Unit also routes municipal appeals and restraining-order matters. Small claims and family cases use their own WCCA codes and processes, while probate has a separate public counter even though it sits within the circuit system.
- CV general civil claims, including contract, tort, and property disputes
- SC small claims and eviction matters
- FA divorce, paternity, support, custody, and related family matters
- PR, IN, and WL public probate or will categories
- Municipal appeals, restraining orders, and injunction proceedings handled by the Civil Unit
Family and probate records carry extra limits. Public metadata may exist while financial, child, protected-address, medical, guardianship, commitment, or adoption documents remain restricted. Search the precise code rather than blending all these records into a single civil category.
Manitowoc Civil Workload
The Wisconsin 2024 county caseload report lists 2,465 civil cases opened in Manitowoc County, 2,460 disposed, and 566 pending at year end. The civil total includes categories with very different paths. The report separately lists ordinary civil, divorce, paternity, other family, and contested and uncontested small claims.
These are case counts, not person counts, and they do not state who won. They show why the code and status filters can save time in a Manitowoc County civil docket search.
Settings on Civil Dockets
A civil case summary may list the branch or commissioner, hearing date, start time, setting type, and remote status. Record the date on which you checked it. A setting can change after WCCA receives an entry, and a return date is not always a trial date. Read later events for a continuance, amended notice, or new scheduling order.
For a same-day check, contact the assigned branch judicial assistant or the Civil Unit. The county says some status, scheduling, pretrial, and other non-substantive hearings may use remote access, but public observation and party participation are separate questions. The full Manitowoc County court calendar process explains the branch contacts and current-setting check.
Note: A public stream or courthouse Zoom station does not grant a party permission to appear remotely.
Manitowoc Civil Clerk Route
The Manitowoc County Civil Unit lists Patricia Jacquart at (920) 683-4031 and Selene Day at (920) 683-4024. Their unit handles civil filings, municipal appeals, restraining-order and injunction matters, and small-claims coordination. Records clerks handle copy questions, while a branch assistant is best for a hearing-specific issue.
The official unit page is shown below and should be checked before relying on a staff assignment or procedure.
For a mailed or faxed request, include the CV, FA, or SC number, exact event or document, filing date, regular or certified copy choice, delivery details, and fee limit.
Public Access to Civil Dockets
A public Manitowoc County civil court docket does not make every filed page public. WCCA supplies case metadata, event labels, dates, and other information allowed by policy. The clerk holds complaint, exhibit, affidavit, transcript, and order images. Sealed items and protected identifiers remain limited, and family files can contain restricted child, financial, medical, or address information.
Key rules:
Wis. Stat. § 19.35 supplies the general inspection and copying framework.
Wis. Stat. § 801.19 addresses court-record access and protected identifiers.
Supreme Court Rule Chapter 72 governs retention, storage, and expunction treatment.
If access is denied, ask for the legal basis and whether releasable portions can be supplied after redaction. The clerk's counter is Room 105, 1010 S. 8th Street, Manitowoc. Regular copies cost $1.25 per page, and certification adds $5. WCCA remains free for public summaries.
Manitowoc Civil Record Requests
A case summary may identify an order without revealing its terms. Move from summary to source by recording the exact case number, event label, and date. Then ask the Manitowoc County Clerk of Circuit Court for that specific document. Requests can be made at the counter, by mail to Room 105, or by fax at (920) 683-2733. Call a records clerk first for an older, unusual, sealed, transcript, or audio request.
| Need | Best route | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Find a public case | WCCA | Case summary and events |
| Read a filed order | Clerk or public CCAP terminal | Document view or regular copy |
| Official proof | Clerk copy request | Certified copy when available |
Registered civil e-filers can access documents in their own eligible cases. That access does not convert Wisconsin eCourts into a public document-image archive. Non-party users should rely on WCCA for discovery and the clerk for the file.
The distinction matters most when an event title is brief. A line marked order, judgment, service, or satisfaction confirms that activity was entered, but it may not answer what the court directed or whether later action changed the result. Ask for the exact filed item instead of a broad case-file request. This gives the clerk a case number, date, and product to locate, and it lets the requester choose inspection, a regular copy, or certification before costs accrue. Keep the response date with the copy because civil status, balances, settings, and public display can change.
